Hi, I want to ask you
how to change the Author on This Just In Theme??
What do you mean by “author”? Changing post authors is a WordPress function, and not part of the theme.
Great work!
Simple and clear.
Gleb
How do I make the nav links show at the top of the page instead of just in the widget? I am sure its something simple, I just cant seem to find it.
Thanks!
Sorry, should have said this was in ref: This Just In!
It looks to me like the links can’t be dynamic at the top, but again, I might just be blind today! lol
@RememberTheFallen: There’s no widget with nav links in it on that theme so I’m not following you…if you elaborate I can probably help.
@Gleb: Thanks!
Within the ‘This just in’ theme there is a sidebar section titled ‘Author’ – how do you access this text to change it?
Sure, the links at the top… Home, Archives, About, Feed, & Sitemap. Is there a way that the pages I create dynamicly can be shown up there instead of just down on the right hand of the page? Very new to wordpress and learning to hang in there with me
Thanks!
do you have to have a comment for the categories to show? Your training videos and text are not working.
Here is little video of my question
http://screencast.com/t/AtLnxold
Is this template the same one listed in the theme directory? I like the tabs at the top vs.creating categories.
@David Wilson: See the following:
@art: Thanks for the heads up on the training videos/text…I solved that problem.
As for the author section, open up sidebar.php and find the Author section about midway down the page. You can change what’s between the paragraph tags and that should help. You can also do the same thing via widgets without getting into the code.
Categories won’t show up unless they contain posts/pages. That’s the way WordPress handles it.
@RememberTheFallen: There’s a way, but it’s not something I can cover here. I’ll write a post on it shortly.
Thank you very much John, I love this theme.
Hello,
thanks for your theme ! I am waiting for the same than rememberthefallen
anther issue : because of this ” text-align: left; /*Reset center align inheretence from body*/ ” in style.css I can’t habe my text in the center, can you help ???, thanks,
seb
@seb: What text do you want to center?
text : “Un tour du monde pour donner sa vue” on the first page (or ACTU).
Thank you for your help and your theme (I have been looking for this for a long time)
seb
@seb: I see what you’re trying to do. The problem is actually with .entry h2 { display: inline;} You’ll need to change to display: block; but you’ll also have to disable the border as it’ll then stretch across the width of the post area (you’ll see what I mean when you try it). Without some more advanced CSS knowledge you’ll have to settle for not having a border if you want those h2’s centered.
I also am curious about how to add additional folder tabs to the header of the page. In the mock up there are tabs for Home, Archive, Site Map, but those do not appear on my home page. In addition, I would like to have the option to customize the tabs. Please advise.
@Greenspunk: Those tabs are there, but they’re commented out. You can uncomment them and add your own using the same format.
OK,
I know that I need to go into header.php to uncomment out the tabs on the top of the header.. But.. There is nothing in header.php..? Just–>> >
• href=”" title=”Home”>Home
Please fill me in.

John,
I’ve uncommented the tabs, but would prefer as I create pages for them to automatically be added to the top there. What can I do here? I’m still learning, so go easy on me!!
@SCOTTY ZEE: If the theme is functioning, there’s more than that in the header file somewhere. Make sure you’re in the theme directory looking at header.php file in an editor…not by “view source”.
@Josh: I’ll write a post on that at some point in the future.
Hi,
I like the look of the theme but I’m unable to use it. My Apache error log spits this out:
PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /blah/blah/blah/This-Just-In/header.php on line 66, referer: http://my.domain
… and I get a blank white screen. I’ve had a look at the file – it’s completely unmodified (downloaded August 11). I’m using Apache 2.2.9 and PHP 5.2.6.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
@Steve: That usually means there’s a missing opening or closing bracket or a semicolon at the end of one of the lines of code. Have you tried downloading the newest version above?
Hallo,
I have downloaded the theme “Get Some”, it’s a really good one. But i can not find the option to change the blocks “Add Unit 468×60″ into the clickable banners. All i have found is
<img src=”/images/ad-unit_728×90_07-04-08.gif” width=”728″ height=”90″ />
in index.php, but nothing that has size of 468×60 or 150×200
Can you please tell me what shall i try to change the blocks on the pages into the banners?
Thank you in advance!
@Veronica: Check sidebar.php for 125×125 & single.php for 468×60 banners.
First of all, I got to say that the “This just in!” theme is really, really nice! It fits my blog perfectly, this is what just I’ve been wanting for months
But, I am not a web developer (in fact, i spent two months figuring out Wordpress’ “famous 5-minute-installation-guide”), and I got to ask you a question..:
Um, how do I change the background color? It’s nice and all, but since my site has the name “blue” in it I figure I need some blue background
I’ll probably crash into some more problems later on… My previous theme was really simple even for a newbie like me to modify, but it also loaded really slow and google hated it
Once again, nice theme!
Gday,
There are some crazy things in header.php. I took the file from my host using ftp and it is only showing the home file and some ? in blue boxes using text edit on Mac. I then downloaded the theme directory from this page above and the header.php in that has the archives and about tabs but nothing is commented out, and also has hyperlinks (?).
What’s going on here?
@ChristianB: Open style.css and change the background color within the body{} element
@SCOTTYZEE: Not sure what the problem is. You were trying to uncomment the top tabs and you say now they’re uncommented. What else are you trying to do?
Hi John,
I’ve installed this theme but I’m trying to edit the “Author” section. I can’t find what you answered previously:
“As for the author section, open up sidebar.php and find the Author section about midway down the page. You can change what’s between the paragraph tags and that should help.”
My sidebar.php doesn’t have any Author section nor does making one help. Need your assistance on this!
Thanks!
@Asher: Try downloading the theme from the link above on this page. It’s definitely in there.
Hello, John…I think your modifications are masterful. I’m still using the first version: is there a way to have a specific header images appear on the home and about pages…and then random everywhere else?
Hi John: I’m having the same problem as Josh — he wrote:

I’ve done the same thing, and the tabs at the top don’t automatically appear as I create my 2nd and 3rd pages. What are Josh and I doing wrong? Your help is ALWAYS appreciated!!
@Katfatsanity and everyone else looking for a way to auto create a nav menu…I just wrote a post on it here: http://www.rlmseo.com/blog/auto-create-navigation-menu/
Hi
I have been playing around with themes and “This Just In!” is my favorite. It has a clean and simple design. The only problem I found is the inability to add responses on pages (as appose to posts). Did I miss something, or is it not allowed with this theme.
me again. What I did was turned all my pages into post and set the post number per page to 1. Added a links section called “Pages” and pointed to each post. Now I have the ability to post coments wherever I wish. 8o)
still love this theme!
@Cindy: Thanks for the kind words! It’s not set up to allow that by default, but you can copy the comments code as well as the comments_template tag from single.php over to the appropriate place in page.php if you want to add comments to pages.
@Rene Georg: Thanks! Yes, there is a way, but it’s not something I can explain here. I’ll write a post about it shortly.
Hi again John,
My tagline isn’t showing up though I’ve got it in place in my General settings under tagline. I remember seeing it but now it’s missing.
Any idea what happened?
Thanks!
Asher
@Asher: Yeah, I’m not a fan of taglines, but it seems everyone else is. WordPress.org requires a tagline so I added it for that, but since everyone seems to use them I decided to bite the bullet and add it to the theme download on this site…but then I forgot…thanks for the reminder.
You can download the new files (the only changes are in header.php and style.css).
Just started a site for my fiancee and I and I’m liking your theme. Problem is, now that I changed my WP to This Just In, there’s no “login” link and I cant get into the WP config pages. I probably just don’t know what I’m doing, but now I’ve been stuck for an hour trying to get in. Any ideas?
@Chris: blogurl.com/wp-admin should do it.
Hi, I recently switched to your theme (love it) but from the beginning had problems with responses to posts not showing in counter, so no matter how many comments are made the comments counter says 0.
I’ve tried several hacks with no success, do you have any suggestions? This may very well be a WP problem but the forums are not helpful. I’m currently using WP 2.6.1 It’s maddening, any help would be appreciated.
Hello John,
I was trying to complete the tasks neede to create the header menu tabs and messed up one of the php files. I thought I had saved the original files but I messed something up and now the html editor will not work and I’m getting other errors like this:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/askdrdan/public_html/wp-content/themes/this-just-in/functions.php:1) in /home/askdrdan/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 694
Is there any help you can offer? I’ll pay if needed.
Thanks
Duane
@Duane: Copy the content of your functions.php file into notepad or another text editor, then email it to me at editor {at} wordpresshacker (d o t) com
@lu: I’m not sure what it could be as I can’t replicate the problem. You say responses are not showing in the “comment counter”…can you expand on that a bit…do you mean the actual text that says “3 Responses” or something else?
