I took a plunge with an SEO company that uses a robust CMS approach to make it easier for their customers to have a DIY approach regarding optimizing their own websites and managing the ongoing efforts needed to keep that process going successfully. (You still have to purchase consulting time to be successful)  I am on month two of the effort and starting to see some of my site metrics are improving, it is too early to tell yet but I am confident of the methods and am learning a ton.

One thing you really hit on reminds me of a few metaphors like &quot;you don&#039;t get something for nothing...or you get what you pay for&quot; I have talked to only a few companies that enlightened me on SEO, both said I could do the work myself, but it is a lot of work.  That is why a company with a successfull SEO reputation doesn&#039;t do it for free as they actually have to work hard to make their customers successful on the web.

If I write a book someday, perhaps I&#039;ll be able to title it:  &quot;How I improved my companies keyword ranking beyond 1 keyword [i.e., name of business]...Subtitle:  And you thought SEO was going to be cheap and easy&quot;</description>

As a happy American, I can see it everywhere: convenience.  How to rank quickly, how to generate hundreds of links with the latest spam gear, how to write one article and have it syndicated 500 times or more and nevermind it&#039;s been plagiarized...

It&#039;s a sad underbelly, and unfortunately all too common.  My inbox is full of your answers:

Why is there so much misinformation on SEO?  Because George what&#039;s-his-name or Billy Bob wondermarketer are capitalizing on a very basic need and desire of anyone caught in this crazy economy: how to fire your boss, get rich quick, and all with only two clicks of your mouse.

Why write new content when you can auto-blog and scrape content?  Why work when plagiarism is the order of the day?  And why think when all you need to do is generate content worthy enough to fool the most basic of uncritical lemmings?

The temptation to sell get rich quick schemes is pretty high - they are the hotcakes flying off the shelves.  It&#039;s the low-hanging fruit, blithely accepted by those who can&#039;t tell they&#039;ve just been sold, because they&#039;re too desperate to really care, they just want an inkling of hope...and they were just told it was a double-click away.</description>
