I spend 2 hours a day for 3 days trying to get my favicon fixed right next to my url but find no luck as instructions on other sites are not so clear.
John you're the man!!! Thank a lot man!!! this link that you provided here "<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" is the only one that worked for me.

This is a great trick. Something really cool I thought you could do with this to allow the favicon to be configured as a theme option.I'm very glad to find it.

Hi Suresh, while I appreciate your recommendation on the plugin, I prefer to avoid the overhead of an extra plugin for something as simple and rarely-changed as a Favicon.

As to your next question...I believe that's built to some (all?) web browsers indicating you're on a site with an "Extended Validation" SSL certificate. Not really something you could change.

To apply favicons and even to generate or apply our gravatar as favicon, there are plugins available, its just a matter of few searches.

I was wondering and I don’t know it yet what it is called for that rectangular part at the beginning of address bar itself. It is much larger than favicon and rectangular in shape like that of paypal site. Do you know what it is called and how to do that?

My recent post: http://icttrends.com/how-to-add-favicon-to-your-blog-wordpress.html

Hi John, I just want to say thank you for making this tutorial. I am seriously going to try and add a favicon on my site tomorrow. I'll try to stop back here and tell you how it went. Thanks again.

Good tutorial John. Most beginners have no idea how to create a favicon for their site. I think it adds a lot to a site. It makes your bookmark stand out in your bookmark list. It also gives you a chance to be a creative and essentially create a 2nd logo.
