I have tried this in the past and failed. Thanks for this in-depth tutorial. I will try again to add the icon to my site, I will let you know how it goes.

Good tutorial John. Most beginners have no idea how to create a favicon for their site. I think it adds a lot to a site. It makes your bookmark stand out in your bookmark list. It also gives you a chance to be a creative and essentially create a 2nd logo.
